Spring Synod 2022

Synod met at Marlborough Road Methodist Church, St Albans on the morning of 7 May 2022.

Opening worship was in the form of a video presentation by the chaplain and pupils of Queenswood School in Hatfield.

Reports were received and decisions taken on a wide range of district activities including Candidates for Ordained Ministry, Probationers Committee, Grants Committee, the District Policy Committee, Discipleship and safeguarding.

There were presentations on Eco-Church, Local Preacher and Worship Leader Development, the Regional Learning Network and Property Matters including the possibility of using empty premises for work with refugees from Ukraine.

Information was shared about movements of presbyters and deacons to appointments in other roles and districts.

The Deputy Chair of District, Revd Malcolm Peacock was warmly thanked by the Chair, Revd Dr David Chapman, who appreciated the range of his experience in the UK and overseas, his calm presence, wisdom and pastoral ministry.

Under the agenda item 'responding to current matters of concern', the Chair highlighted:

1. the opportunities for information and guidance in relation to Ukrainian and other refugees
2. fuel poverty and the rising cost of living and encouraged churches to share information on initiatives taken.
